About
A studio built on looking carefully before shooting
Pandaivivid has been photographing people, places, and products in Victoria since 2017.
Who we are and how this studio got started
Pandaivivid was founded in Victoria, BC in 2017 by a photographer who had spent the previous six years shooting editorial assignments for regional magazines across western Canada. The name is deliberately playful — a counterpoint to the very serious craft underneath it. The studio operates as a small team: a lead photographer, a second shooter for complex events and weddings, and a post-production editor who works on every gallery before it's delivered. That consistency means you get the same visual voice across every image in your set, not a mixed bag of differently processed frames. Since 2017 we've completed over 280 paid projects — roughly 40 weddings, 90 portrait sessions, 80 commercial shoots, and 70 events — across Victoria, Vancouver Island, and occasionally further afield. The majority of new clients come through referrals, which tells us something about the relationship between doing careful work and not needing to shout about it.
How we think about the craft — and its honest limits
Editorial photography, the way we practice it, means treating every shoot as a sequence rather than a set of isolated frames. We think about pacing, about which image opens the gallery and which one closes it. The violet-creative palette we use in post-production — cool highlights, slightly lifted shadows, accurate but rich colour — grew out of Victoria's particular quality of northern light: clear, directional, never harsh. It's become recognisably ours. What we ask of clients is patience with the process. Post-production takes 10–21 business days because every file is reviewed individually, not batch-processed. We serve individuals celebrating milestones, businesses building visual identities, and organisations that need honest documentary coverage of their events. We don't serve clients who need photographic output in under 24 hours, or whose brief is heavily composited fantasy imagery — not because that work isn't valid, but because it's genuinely not what we do well. Knowing the edges of your competence is, we think, part of doing good work.
I've used Pandaivivid for three commercial shoots across two years — a product launch, an office rebrand, and a staff portrait day. The consistency between sessions is what keeps me coming back. I send the brief, they ask three sharp questions I hadn't thought of, and the results land in a gallery that my team can use immediately.
